Since 1935, public-spirited WCA members have given their time to further the interests of all areas that constitute our community, including Overlook, Spring Hill, Westgate, Westhaven, Westmoreland Hills, and Yorktown Village, on both sides of Massachusetts Ave.
Residents have worked to maintain good schools, a library, parks, and community building, to encourage discussion of and action on civic matters, and to promote neighborliness and goodwill throughout the area.
JOIN WCA
to hear and engage in issues and events affecting the general welfare and quality of life of the community, to represent its members in civic matters before government agencies and other organizations, and to promote the common good.
YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
WCA welcomes all residents as members, so even if you decide to be a non-paying member, we welcome your ideas and participation. As a non-profit civic organization, we want to engage all members in social events and all issues of interest and importance to our community. As a reminder, we have no staff or interns and rely solely on volunteers for our bi-weekly newsletter, directory and website maintenance, accounting, liaising with county representatives on traffic, development, safety, and more. Your support makes a difference!
THE STORY OF THE LITTLE HOUSE
Did you know the Little House was twice slated for demolition and twice saved by Westmoreland residents?
Its history is a testament to our community’s ability to come together.
In 1956, the M-NCPPC purchased six World War II–era prefabricated Navy barracks to repurpose as community buildings across Montgomery County. One of those became our own Little House.
The land that became Westmoreland Park was acquired in 1951 by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). It was once part of Washington’s Civil War defenses, near Battery Bailey, along what was then called Military Road.
Today, the Little House is a place where people gather for birthday parties, fireside chats, community meetings, Ballet Petite and Red Panda classes for kids, and more. The Little House belongs to you, whether you are a member or not of WCA, whether you've paid or not paid your dues. (We certainly hope you have!)
